Welcome
to the Academy of Danse Libre, one of the nation's premier
vintage dance performance groups! Danse Libre is a non-profit
organization based in the San Francisco Bay Area, dedicated
to the lively exhibition of vintage social dances. Danse
Libre performs a variety of breathtaking pieces from the
19th and early 20th centuries in authentic period costume.
Each of our dances brings to life a period in history, complete
with the music, dance, dress, and mannerisms of the time.
Many of our dancers have studied with dance historian Richard
Powers of Stanford University and have performed in such
settings as the Smithsonian Institution, Paris, and Prague.
Through the accurate recreation of these eras, we introduce
our audience to a rich and evolving culture of dance.
We now have a YouTube channel! We will update it with more performance videos in the future.
Please become a fan of us on Facebook to be kept up-to-date with auditions and upcoming performances.
